Researching A Breeder!

Updated: Jun 25

When purchasing from a breeder, it's important to ask the right questions and understand what you should receive with a pup. Here are some key considerations:

- **Health Guarantee**: What kind of health guarantee does the breeder offer? How long does it last?

- **Veterinarian Check**: Has the puppy been seen by a veterinarian, and do they have a health certificate? A health certificate outlines a detailed exam done by a licensed veterinarian, including vaccines administered and fecal results, ensuring a clean bill of health. It will also list the veterinarian’s office name and phone number.

- **Puppy Food**: Does the breeder supply a sample bag of the puppy food they have been using or an ample amount to help you transition to your preferred brand?

- **Transition Goodies**: Often, breeders include extra goodies to help the puppy transition to their new home.

- **DNA Testing**: Have you inquired about DNA testing? Is the information publicly listed or private? Our DNA testing results are public, allowing you to check things out on your own time without pressure.

- **Photos and Videos**: Have you seen pictures and videos of the puppies with other dogs, littermates, or children? Ask for more than just a couple of photos. Make sure to get accurate and very up-to-date videos.

- **Social Media**: Do they have social media accounts or a YouTube channel? Do your due diligence and research by watching any available videos.

- **Visiting the Breeder**: Some breeders allow you to visit their home; we are one of them. We allow visits to family’s ready to bring a puppy home, only. others may prefer to meet in a public location for the safety of their home and family. This isn’t a red flag but be sure to build a relationship with the breeder. If meeting in public, try to get videos of the puppy in the breeder’s home to see how they engage.
